floods and traffic chaos

The southern England has been experiencing a heavy rainfall that is causing floods and traffic problems, disrupting the normal lives.

Across the east of England and also in some parts of Scotland, up to 4 cm of rainfall has been recorded, which is more than half of the normal monthly total rainfall. The rain fell for only few hours overnight and also there were strong winds at some areas. The southern England has recorded for up to 6 to 7 cm of average rainfall in the month of August.

On Tuesday, the Northern Ireland is also cautioned of expecting a heavy rainfall.

While forecasters are giving warnings of further heavy rainfalls, the regions like central Tayside and Fife, north-east England, Grampian, East Midlands, Humberside and Yorkshire were given severe warnings by the Met Office alerting that there was a risk of up to 15mm of heavy rainfall, in a little time.

With nearly 4cm of rains, the Hampshire’s Thorney Island has witnessed the nastiest stormy weather during the night, of which half of it fell between midnight and 1am, forcing 8 winds of 40mph, damaging the place.

The A249 in Kent was one among the roads that were affected, with the floods forcing the northbound carriageway to be closed between the junctions with the M2 and the A250. The drivers are warned by the Highways Agency to be more careful while using the roads across the England.

A forecaster with Meteo Group, Claire Austin has said that on Wednesday there would be more showers and severe weather conditions would prevail, that may affect most part of the UK.
